Java Developer

We are looking for a Sr Java Engineer to help design and enhance the services behind a customer-facing Consumer Insights platform in San Francisco, California. This long-term contract position focuses on building reliable backend systems, delivering new features, and improving application performance in a fast-moving engineering environment. The role offers the opportunity to work with large-scale data, contribute to API and business logic development, and partner closely with teammates to maintain high technical standards.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend applications and foundational platform services that support a consumer insights product.

• Deliver new backend capabilities and software enhancements, with a primary emphasis on feature development and service improvement.

• Create and tune SQL queries for large datasets, including work with data housed in Snowflake.

• Participate in peer code reviews and help strengthen engineering best practices, code quality, and maintainability.

• Investigate defects, resolve production and application issues, and improve overall system reliability.

• Share clear updates on progress, risks, and technical blockers to keep stakeholders and team members aligned.

• Take increasing ownership of more complex initiatives after onboarding through smaller fixes and incremental improvements.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in software engineering with a history of producing well-structured, dependable code.
• Hands-on experience with Java, preferably including exposure to modern versions such as Java 21.
• Working proficiency in Python and the ability to contribute effectively in a backend environment centered on Java.
• Demonstrated experience building APIs and implementing backend business logic for production systems.
• Advanced SQL skills and confidence working with high-volume data environments.
• Experience supporting external-facing applications or products used directly by customers.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or comparable practical experience is preferred.
