About the Role
- Administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security across production and non-production environments
- Design, implement, and manage database backup and disaster recovery strategies to minimize data loss and downtime
- Monitor database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization solutions including query tuning and index management
- Manage user access controls, database permissions, and security protocols to protect sensitive retail and customer data
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures
- Perform database migrations, upgrades, and patches with minimal impact to business operations
- Collaborate with application development teams to support database design and troubleshoot application-level database issues
- Implement and maintain high availability and replication solutions to ensure business continuity
- Document database configurations, procedures, and runbooks to support operational efficiency and knowledge transfer
- Stay current with PostgreSQL updates, security patches, and industry best practices
- Degree in Information Systems/Computer Science or related;
- Hands-on experience with opensource engines like Postgres(Mongo is a plus);
- Hands-on experience with Enterprise databases like SQL and Oracle is a plus;
- Database engines software lifecycle management and related components;
- Backup and Recovery (DR/HA): Designing, implementing and testing backup and recovery strategies (RTO/RPO), and configuring high availability/disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Data Guard, Always On, replication)
- Monitoring disk space, memory, and CPU usage, and planning for future hardware/cloud resource needs (e.g., tablespace management, storage sizing).
- Managing database-level user accounts, roles, privileges, and access control for specific application components.
- Using specific tools (like Explain Plan, AWR, or database-specific profilers) to diagnose slow queries and propose code-level fixes.
- Managing the deployment of database schema changes and code updates alongside application releases, often through CI/CD pipelines Collaborating with developers and architects on the logical and physical design of database schemas, tables, indexes, and views to support application needs.
- Troubleshooting operational problems and root cause analysis;
- Participating in 24x7 on-call rotation plan;
- Improving methods for monitoring and error-prevention (e.g. diagnostic or corrective automation);
- Participate and develop project activities related to this scope.
