About the Role
We are looking for an experienced RPG AS400 specialist to support critical ERP integration and manufacturing operations in California. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can bridge technical development with plant-level business needs, ensuring reliable performance across core AS400 applications. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing legacy systems while partnering closely with operations teams to resolve issues and improve day-to-day efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain, enhance, and support AS400-based ERP applications used across manufacturing and operational workflows.
• Develop and modify RPG programs in multiple formats, including legacy and modern free-format approaches, to meet business and system requirements.
• Work closely with production and operations teams to translate business needs into practical system solutions and documented requirements.
• Support manufacturing process functionality such as bills of materials, routings, inventory movements, and production-related transactions.
• Troubleshoot application and production support issues across multiple support levels, driving timely resolution to minimize operational disruption.
• Manage and monitor batch processing, scheduled jobs, and automation tasks to ensure consistent system performance and data accuracy.
• Analyze DB2 data structures, files, and processing logic to improve reliability, reporting, and transaction handling.
• Contribute to the modernization of green screen applications by improving usability, maintainability, and operational effectiveness.
• Strong programming expertise in RPG, including RPG II, RPG/400, RPG IV, and free-format RPG.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, including BOM management, routing structures, inventory activity, and shop floor transactions.
• Proven ability to support, maintain, and improve legacy green screen applications.
• Strong knowledge of DB2, physical and logical file structures, and data processing within AS400 environments.
• Experience administering batch jobs, job scheduling, and process automation in a production setting.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve live production issues while supporting ongoing business operations.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate directly with business stakeholders and operations teams.

• 7+ years of experience working with AS400 / IBM i (iSeries) environments in a hands-on development and support capacity.• Strong programming expertise in RPG, including RPG II, RPG/400, RPG IV, and free-format RPG.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, including BOM management, routing structures, inventory activity, and shop floor transactions.
• Proven ability to support, maintain, and improve legacy green screen applications.
