Senior Data Platform Engineer (Azure, Databricks, Terraform)

Join a mature, in-production platform initiative for one of the largest financial services technology providers in Germany: a self-service platform that automatically provisions secure, compliant Databricks environments for banking clients, connecting on-premises data with the cloud.

Responsibilities  

• Contribute to building and evolving the platform that automates the provisioning of Databricks workspaces
• Write Terraform code for deploying and managing Azure infrastructure
• Develop orchestration and provisioning logic in Apache Airflow
• Build data synchronization pipelines between on-premises data lakes and the cloud platform
• Work on the governance layer, keeping Databricks governance in sync with on-premises data governance
• Collaborate with the client's engineering team, including quarterly on-site PI Planning weeks in Germany

Must Have

• Strong experience with Databricks (workspace administration, governance/Unity Catalog)
• Solid Terraform / infrastructure-as-code experience in Azure
• Apache Airflow for orchestration and automation
• Data engineering fundamentals: reliable data sync/integration pipelines
• Kubernetes experience (the platform runs on OpenShift)
• Senior-level autonomy: able to take ownership and challenge technical decisions

 

Nice to Have

• Docker / containerization: building and packaging platform components as container images for deployment on the Kubernetes-based runtime
• GenAI on Databricks (agents, RAG) — potential future direction, not a current requirement
• German (not mandatory; working language is English)
• Experience in regulated industries (banking / financial services)
