Robert Half is hiring! We are looking for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer to join a growing team. This position focuses on building production-ready AI solutions that combine agentic workflows, scalable backend engineering, and modern web application development. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience across AI system design, API development, cloud-based services, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable, high-impact products.
Responsibilities:
• Lead full product development efforts from initial architecture through deployment and ongoing enhancement of AI-driven applications.
• Design and implement advanced agentic AI systems that support reasoning, planning, memory, tool usage, and multi-step task execution.
• Build, test, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI, or Node.js frameworks such as Express or NestJS.
• Create and support RESTful and GraphQL interfaces that connect AI capabilities with web applications, enterprise platforms, and external services.
• Develop React-based user interface components and ensure smooth interaction between frontend experiences and backend systems.
• Architect microservices and distributed application patterns that improve scalability, resiliency, and maintainability across production environments.
• Establish evaluation, observability, and monitoring practices to measure AI system quality, reliability, latency, cost efficiency, and operational health.
• Collaborate with product, design, DevOps, data science, and engineering teams to translate business goals into secure, scalable technical solutions.
• Drive deployment automation, containerization, troubleshooting, and performance optimization across cloud-hosted applications and AI services.
Requirements
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including delivery of production-grade applications and services.• Strong hands-on programming expertise in Python or Node.js, with the ability to build maintainable and well-documented systems.
• Experience developing AI-enabled solutions involving large language models, generative AI concepts, embeddings, prompt design, or agent-based workflows.
• Proficiency with React and modern frontend integration patterns for data-driven web applications.
• Solid understanding of API design, asynchronous programming, microservices, and distributed system architecture.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Familiarity with frameworks and tools used for AI orchestration, such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, or similar technologies.
• Strong communication, analytical thinking, and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
