MEDITECH Integration & Data Extraction Specialist
About the Role
The EHR Integration & Data Extraction Specialist serves as the primary technical expert responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that connect legacy and modern electronic health record (EHR) platforms—specifically MEDITECH Magic, Client/Server (CS), and Expanse—to downstream analytics, reporting, and enterprise systems. This role requires deep knowledge of EHR native data structures, integration interfaces, and extraction methodologies to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant healthcare data in support of clinical, operational, and regulatory objectives.
Key to the Role:
They need someone who connect directly to the Meditech MAGIC/CS backend and develop a script to extract entire DPM and all segments under DPM from magic and CS backend (Mumps). This person should be able to extract data without relying on Meditech Data Repository and NPR reports.
Key Responsibilities:
EHR Platform Integration
- Design and implement end-to-end integration solutions for MEDITECH Magic, CS, and Expanse platforms.
- Configure and manage HL7 v2.x interfaces (ADT, ORM, ORU, MDM, DFT) using native interface engines and third-party middleware (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, or Microsoft BizTalk).
- Extract data directly from database applications, outputting as SQL backups while ensuring real-time synchronization to capture CRUD operations.
- Build integrations leveraging FHIR R4 APIs, REST web services, and modern integration platforms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve interface failures, data mismatches, and connectivity issues across system environments.
- Nice to have: Develop and maintain MEDITECH Magic BAR (Billing/Accounts Receivable), NPR (Non-Patient Reporting), and MAGIC-specific data extraction routines.
Data Extraction & Transformation
- Extract discrete data, reports, and documents from both proprietary file systems and relational database layers (MS SQL Server).
- Develop SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL pipelines to pull structured data from enterprise healthcare data warehouses, including Data Repository (DR) and Expanse Data Repository (EDR).
- Transform raw data into MS SQL Server backups capable of handling continuous CRUD operations.
- Build and maintain data validation scripts and design routines to ensure dataset accuracy, completeness, and referential integrity.
- Map proprietary healthcare codes to standard terminologies (ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, CPT, RxNorm).
- Develop custom reports and extracts using built-in reporting tools (NPR, BAR Report Writer).
- Nice to have: Transform raw EHR data into standardized formats (HL7 FHIR, CDA, CSV, JSON, XML) for downstream consumption.
Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with MEDITECH Magic (specifically NPR, BAR, LAB, PHA, and ADM modules).
- 3+ years of experience with MEDITECH Client/Server (CS) or Expanse, including SQL-accessible Data Repositories.
- Demonstrated experience reading, writing, and debugging MUMPS (M language) within a legacy EHR environment.
- Proficiency navigating and extracting data from hierarchical folder and global file structures (including DPT, MIS, DR, and module-specific namespaces).
- Strong working knowledge of relational database concepts (normalization, indexing, joins, foreign keys, schema design) with hands-on MS SQL Server experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing and supporting HL7 v2.x interfaces in a healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in SQL Server T-SQL for complex querying, stored procedures, and performance tuning against healthcare Data Repository schemas.
- Working experience with at least one ETL/integration tool (SSIS, Informatica, Mirth Connect, or equivalent).
Technical Skills
- MUMPS / M Language: Reading and writing routines; understanding global variable storage, subscript navigation, and routine execution.
- Legacy File Structures: In-depth knowledge of proprietary hierarchical globals and folder architecture (DPT, BAR, LAB, PHA, MIS, DR namespaces); traversing non-relational global trees.
- Relational Databases: Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, stored procedures, views, indexing, query optimization); understanding relational schema design and cross-module relationships.
- EHR Platforms: MEDITECH Magic (NPR, BAR extracts, MAGIC file structures), MEDITECH CS/Expanse (EDR schemas, FHIR R4 APIs, Web Services).
- Interface Standards & Data Formats: HL7 v2.x, FHIR R4, CDA/C-CDA, X12 EDI; XML, JSON, CSV, pipe-delimited text, XPath/XSLT.
- Healthcare Terminologies: ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, NPI.
