Working with distributed engineering teams across the U.S., Europe, India, and Brazil, you will influence technical direction while remaining deeply involved in building and prototyping solutions. Accountabilities: As the technical authority for the ELR ecosystem, you will define scalable architecture, build foundational platforms, and raise engineering standards across a globally distributed environment. Lead the technical vision, architecture, and evolution of distributed, multi-tenant ELR cloud services supporting millions of real-time transactions across global jurisdictions. Design ultra-low-latency, fault-tolerant ingestion pipelines, transformation engines for XML, JSON, UBL, and CII, digital signature services, and automated tax authority gateways. Architect systems for strict auditability, 99.99%+ availability, multi-region active-active deployments, and data residency and compliance isolation. Build self-service integration frameworks, developer toolkits, onboarding accelerators, APIs, webhooks, SDKs, and event-driven integration patterns. Develop automated data mapping, schema validation, and format translation capabilities for major ERP, billing, and custom enterprise environments, including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, and NetSuite. Create interactive testing, simulation, and validation sandboxes that allow customers to model country-specific regulatory flows and tax authority responses before production deployment. Write production-grade foundational code, reference implementations, SDKs, and architectural prototypes while driving rigorous design and code reviews. Identify performance bottlenecks, systemic risks, and technical debt, and lead architectural improvements that strengthen scalability and operational resilience. Design and integrate AI-powered capabilities such as automated schema mapping, predictive error remediation, anomaly detection, regulatory data extraction, and conversational onboarding assistants. Establish responsible AI architecture and security standards for backend pipelines and developer tooling. Mentor senior engineers through technical coaching, architectural guidance, and hands-on collaboration across global teams. Establish engineering standards covering API design, observability, automated testing, documentation, and operational excellence. In the first 6–12 months, establish a unified architectural roadmap, reduce enterprise onboarding and integration friction, modernize core processing engines, and embed AI-driven automation into integration workflows. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced hands-on architect and software engineer with a strong track record of designing large-scale distributed systems, developer platforms, and enterprise integrations. You should be comfortable navigating complex regulatory requirements while translating them into robust, scalable technical solutions. 15+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including extensive experience designing and operating large-scale distributed cloud systems. Proven experience building developer tools, integration platforms, self-service onboarding systems, or enterprise integration middleware. Strong proficiency in modern backend languages and runtimes such as Java, C#/.NET Core, Go, or Python. Deep expertise in API design, including REST, GraphQL, and gRPC. Strong knowledge of event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka, EventBridge, and RabbitMQ. Extensive experience with microservices architecture and distributed system design patterns. Expertise in complex schema definitions, validation, and payload transformation, including XML/XSD, JSON Schema, UBL, and EDI. Extensive AWS or other major cloud provider experience, combined with modern DevOps practices using technologies such as Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes/ECS, and CI/CD. Ability to translate complex business and regulatory requirements into clear software abstractions and scalable technical architectures. Experience with E-Invoicing, Live Reporting, Peppol, EDI/B2B data exchange, fintech, compliance, or tax technology is strongly preferred. Experience building ERP connectors or middleware integrations for platforms such as SAP, NetSuite, Workday, Dynamics 365, or Oracle is a strong advantage. Experience with data sovereignty, digital signing, PKI, HSM, X.509 certificates, and cryptographic verification requirements is preferred. Experience integrating generative AI or machine learning models into production data pipelines or developer tooling is beneficial. Strong builder mindset with a passion for coding, architecture, technical problem-solving, and hands-on individual contribution. Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, collaborate across distributed teams, and lead without relying on formal authority. Comfortable working in a fast-changing environment that values ownership, adaptability, curiosity, humility, urgency, and simplicity. Benefits: Competitive compensation package. Paid time off. Paid parental leave. Eligibility for bonuses for many employees. Benefits that generally include private medical, life, and disability insurance, depending on location. Inclusive and collaborative culture with employee-run resource groups supported by senior and executive leadership. Opportunity to work in an AI-first environment where AI is integrated into workflows, products, and everyday business challenges. Exposure to global engineering teams and complex international technology and regulatory challenges. Opportunity to shape next-generation platforms at the intersection of cloud engineering, enterprise integration, compliance, and AI.
