Accountabilities: As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development, maintenance, and sustainment of enterprise systems while following Agile practices and established software engineering standards. Plan, conduct, and coordinate Agile software development activities supporting enterprise archive systems. Maintain and enhance software used to ingest, preserve, manage, and deliver environmental data. Apply appropriate software development standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development lifecycle. Manage change requests and coordinate the deployment of software changes across multiple environments. Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain applications using modern programming languages and frameworks. Diagnose and correct program errors while analyzing system capabilities, input requirements, outputs, controls, and programming approaches. Develop and maintain front-end functionality using React, Angular, or other JavaScript frameworks. Design and work with RESTful APIs and structured data formats including JSON and XML. Support data flows and processing pipelines using technologies such as Kafka, NiFi, Spark, and RabbitMQ. Maintain technical documentation, operating instructions, and development records. Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to resolve technical questions and ensure software standards are consistently met. Requirements: The ideal candidate combines solid software engineering experience with Linux expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work effectively in an Agile, multidisciplinary environment. 4–6 years of experience in software engineering or a related field. At least 2 years of professional experience working with Linux. Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, such as Python, R, Scala, C++, Java, C#, or JavaScript. Demonstrated experience with front-end development using React, Angular, or another JavaScript framework. Strong understanding of RESTful architecture, API design principles, JSON, and XML. Working knowledge of version control systems such as Git. Hands-on experience with data flow and pipeline technologies such as Kafka, NiFi, Spark, or RabbitMQ. Strong problem-solving skills and an understanding of the relationship between hardware and software applications. Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow through on open issues, and remain responsive in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases and data modeling is preferred. Knowledge of Docker or Podman containerization is preferred. Experience with cloud technologies such as Terraform, AWS EKS, Step Functions, Lambda, Aurora, or DynamoDB is preferred. Understanding of TCP/IP networking and remote system workflows, including SSH and port forwarding, is preferred. Experience with Elasticsearch cluster deployment and maintenance is a plus. Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar collaboration tools is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related IT/IS field is preferred. Agile or cloud certifications, such as Certified Scrum Master, SAFe, AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Developer, or AWS Solutions Architect, are desirable. Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Benefits: Salary range of $64,000–$70,000, with final compensation determined based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and other applicable factors.
