Accountabilities: As a Staff Software Engineer, you will remain hands-on while providing technical leadership across complex engineering initiatives. You will help evolve the platform architecture, improve reliability and engineering processes, and collaborate with product and cross-functional leaders on strategic priorities. Ensure high reliability, correctness, and security across card processing systems. Analyze existing architecture and identify opportunities for significant improvements and long-term scalability. Propose and drive architectural changes that address evolving business and technical requirements. Lead large, multi-month engineering initiatives, migrations, and re-architecting projects. Contribute hands-on code while providing technical direction to other engineers. Ensure the team consistently delivers reliable, secure, maintainable, and scalable software. Lead initiatives to improve engineering systems, processes, standards, and development practices. Partner with engineering, product, and cross-functional leaders on strategic planning and technical roadmaps. Evaluate tradeoffs between long-term technical investment and delivering immediate product value. Serve as a technical lead for a small engineering team and help guide technical decisions. Mentor and coach engineers on distributed systems patterns, architecture, and engineering best practices. Participate in team on-call rotations and contribute to maintaining operational reliability. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with a strong background in distributed systems and production-scale applications. You should combine deep technical expertise with ownership, leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and business functions. 8+ years of experience shipping software in fast-paced production environments. Strong experience building event-driven and advanced distributed systems. Demonstrated ability to take ownership and accountability for complex technical outcomes. Experience serving as a technical lead for a small engineering team. Proven experience driving large, multi-month migrations, re-architecting initiatives, or other significant technical transformations. Strong understanding of distributed systems patterns and best practices. Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers on complex technical concepts. Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, operations teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders. Strong architectural and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to balance scalability, reliability, security, and product requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Curiosity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and solving complex engineering problems. Experience with technologies such as Node.js, DocumentDB, and AWS is relevant to the existing technical environment. Benefits: Annual U.S. salary range of $200,000–$220,000, plus equity.
