This role is responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise database environments supporting a mission-critical federal application. You will ensure database health, performance, security, availability, and operational reliability across production and non-production environments. Working closely with Appian developers, architects, DevSecOps engineers, security specialists, and functional teams, you will support ongoing operations and application releases. The position combines hands-on database administration with performance optimization, security, automation, and troubleshooting. Accountabilities: Manage enterprise database services across multiple environments while ensuring reliable application operations, security, and performance. Monitor and maintain database health across production, test, development, and other supported environments. Perform proactive maintenance, performance tuning, query optimization, capacity planning, and health monitoring. Design and implement database schemas, data models, indexes, and migration strategies for application enhancements. Manage database security, hardening, patching, access controls, and compliance with STIG and applicable DoD requirements. Maintain backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster preparedness processes. Troubleshoot database errors, performance issues, connectivity problems, locking and resource contention, and data discrepancies. Support application teams with database design, SQL development, query optimization, data troubleshooting, and release activities. Coordinate with DevSecOps and infrastructure teams on deployment automation, configuration management, monitoring, and patching. Support data migrations, upgrades, schema changes, and integrations while minimizing operational disruption. Maintain database documentation, runbooks, configuration records, and operational procedures. Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, problem management, and corrective action initiatives. Contribute to Agile planning and release activities while communicating database risks, dependencies, and technical recommendations to stakeholders. Requirements: The ideal candidate brings strong enterprise database administration experience, technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to support secure, mission-critical environments. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. 3+ years of database administration experience supporting enterprise applications or mission-critical systems. Strong experience with relational database technologies such as Oracle and/or SQL Server. Expertise in database performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, and troubleshooting. Experience with database security, patching, hardening, and STIG or equivalent compliance requirements. Proficiency in SQL, schema design, data modeling, query optimization, and database migration activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the communication skills to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one. U.S. citizenship is required. Oracle Certified Professional or comparable database certification is a plus. Experience supporting Appian-based enterprise applications, including Appian data stores, application performance, and database troubleshooting, is preferred. Experience with MarkLogic, NoSQL, or other non-relational database technologies is desirable. Experience with AWS database services or cloud-hosted database environments is a plus. Scripting experience with Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar automation tools is advantageous. Experience supporting Army, DoD, federal acquisition, or other highly regulated mission-critical systems is preferred. Benefits: Target salary of up to $140,000.
