About the Role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Contract Staff Software Engineer - Performance Graphics (C++, Rust, WebGL) based in the United States. This role focuses on the ongoing engineering and maintenance of a large-scale browser graphics stack covering rendering, compositing, images, canvas, and WebGL. You will help keep complex graphics systems healthy by resolving bugs, regressions, incoming issues, and test-related challenges. The position requires diagnosing graphics problems across multiple operating systems and hardware environments. You will work within a mature, multithreaded codebase where strong debugging, optimization, and technical judgment are essential. Your contributions will help reduce technical backlog and regressions while improving the reliability of the graphics area. You will also participate in code reviews and routine engineering work, allowing senior engineers to dedicate more time to performance-focused initiatives. This is a remote contract opportunity suited to an independent engineer who can take technical ownership in a complex open-source software environment.
